Three Steps to Success
Looking for a simple formula for success? Here it is!
- Show up.
- Show up on time.
- Show up on time, ready to work.
It’s that simple. Apply these three principles to your job, career, new business venture, vendor relations, personal relationships, Toastmasters club meetings…whatever you do.
How does this work?
First, in whatever you do, you must show up. If you skip out on an obligation, you simply will not gain from it.
Second, you must show up on time. If you cannot be prompt in your dealings with others, you are demonstrating two things:
- 1. That you have no respect for others’ time, by keeping them waiting for you.
- 2. That your life (or your business affairs, etc) is so unorganized that you cannot keep simple appointments.
Punctuality is key to many endeavors. Punctuality in the little things will lead to better success in the bigger things.
Finally, you must show up on time…and be ready to work. This is more attitude than anything else. If you show up distracted, uninterested, hung-over, or otherwise unprepared by any means, you will find success far more difficult to achieve.
At Toastmasters, we apply these three principles to our club meetings.
When we show up, we can practice our speaking, listening, and leadership skills.
By showing up on time, we are able to start and end meetings promptly, respecting every club member’s time and schedule.
And finally, we are ready to work. We speak when necessary, we applaud our speakers when they finish, we listen to what each member says, and we build on this success to improve ourselves and others.
